City Hall Landing Shelter Construction Underway
On June 11, 2015, work started on the construction of a new landing shelter for the Savannah Belles Ferry. The shelter will be located on River Street at the foot of City Hall. The vision for the shelter was first described in the 2006 Visitor Mobility Plan as a way to improve the passenger experience.
“Savannah Area Mobility Management and our partners are so pleased to see this project underway. The City Hall Ferry Landing Shelter is a welcome amenity and will be a wonderful benefit for our ferry passengers. Last year our ferry riders made over 760,000 trips across the river,” said Jody McIntyre, Chair of Savannah Mobility Management, Inc.
“The design complements the site and its immediate context, including the African American Monument and Visitor Center as well as its connection to the Savannah River and overall Historic District,” said Bridget Lidy, Director of Tourism Management and Ambassadorship. The design was approved by the Historic District Review Board in July 2014.
